The mission of Alliance Hospice is to understand and help guide our patients’ quest for a rewarding quality of life in their final days and to help their circle of family and friends support them in life and grieve for them in death. Alliance pledges to provide expert hospice care for the comfort and dignity of the terminally ill by addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Alliance Hospice seeks to provide care for all appropriate patients and families who need hospice services regardless of their ability to pay.
Anyone diagnosed with limited life expectancy can receive Alliance Hospice care. A physician certifies the terminal illness and collaborates with the Alliance Hospice team for appropriate services. Many patients have cancer but Alliance Hospice cares for those with all other terminal illnesses including heart and lung disease, kidney disease, neurological disease, AIDS, Alzheimer’s, and other dementias. Family and friends also receive hospice care to help them support the patient and adapt to their loss. Alliance Hospice continues supporting families for over a year after the patient’s death.
Many people mistakenly believe that hospice patients are bed-bound, critically ill, and unable to continue living life to the fullest. In most cases, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Hospice celebrates life and supports the patient’s individual needs.
Patients must meet specific criteria in order to be eligible for hospice. The Alliance Hospice team will work with you and your physician to determine your eligibility.
Contact the Admission Coordinator at Alliance Hospice with any questions about hospice or eligibility.
After receiving a diagnosis for limited life expectancy, patients make an important choice between hospice care and aggressive medical treatment.
Medical treatment regards death as a “failure”, and it focuses on curing the physical illness rather than satisfying the patient’s emotional and spiritual needs. It often requires intensive care in a clinical setting that diminishes the patient’s quality of life. Hospice, on the other hand, regards death as a natural phenomenon, and attempts to enrich the quality of life in the remaining days.
Alliance Hospice care neither prolongs life nor hastens death, but relieves pain and physical discomfort so that the patient can experience a more peaceful and fulfilling quality of life near the end. Over 96% of the time, hospice care takes place in the home. It is a common regret of many families that they waited too long to take full advantage of all the benefits offered by hospice care.
Alliance Hospice operates hospice care and palliative care programs in Augusta, Georgia, North Augusta, South Carolina and other Georgia and South Carolina Communities. We are one of the nation’s premier providers of end-of-life care.
