Who benefits from hospice care?

Alliance provides hospice and palliative care for adults and children with a wide-range of terminal illnesses and conditions. The following is a non-inclusive list of diseases and conditions:

  • ALS
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Liver, lung and kidney disease
  • Stroke

Alliance’s focus is on the treatment of emotional and physical symptoms and pain management. Alliance’s palliative care is an active treatment. However, palliative care is not intended to cure the patient’s illness or condition. Palliative care is focused on enhancing the patient’s quality of life..

Who is on the Alliance Hospice team?

The Alliance hospice team is comprised of trained caregivers who make sure to meet the needs of all patients and their families.

  • Nurses provide hands-on care and are experienced in managing patient’s pain and symptoms.
  • Social Workers are skilled listeners who provide emotional support for the patient and their families. They also may help with financial issues and planning.
  • Hospice Aides are personnel that help with personal care, such as bathing. They also help with tasks that support the patient, such as fixing light meals, cleaning, laundry and shopping.
  • Physicians work with the patient’s primary physicians and are available for consultations about pain and symptom management. They are also available for in home visits in necessary.
  • Volunteers are specifically trained in hospice and are an important part of the hospice team. They are an extra pair of hands when help is needed the most.
  • Bereavement Specialists provide grief counseling and other support for the patient’s family and loved ones.
  • Chaplains are personnel who provide non-denominational spiritual support, and work with faith communities.

What is the purpose of hospice?

Alliance hospice provides all prescription medications, medical equipment and supplies that are required to treat terminal illness. Additionally Alliance provides the four levels of Hospice care.

Routine Home Care
Alliance wants to keep patients at home, wherever that may be. Alliance does this by providing hospice care services where the patient considers their home.

Continuous Care
Alliance has the ability to provide crisis continuous care for a patient to avoid hospitalization. Alliance can provide hospice nurses and nursing aides at home for up to 24 hours, for a short period, during a care crisis.

Inpatient Care
Alliance has contract arrangements with local hospitals or other licensed facilities where patients are able to receive the necessary care when their needs cannot be provided for at home.

Respite Care
This care provides a brief “respite” for the patient’s primary caregiver. A patient is admitted to a licensed facility for up to 5 days to provide family caregivers with a period of rest.

Who pays for hospice care?

Medicare/Medicaid
Alliance hospice care is covered by medicare and medicaid in most states. Since medicare and medicaid cover all hospice services related to the Hospice diagnosis, there is no out of pocket expenses for the patient and their family to worry about.

Private Insurance
Alliance is able to contact a patient’s private insurance company to ask about coverage provided for hospice care.
